    "Boys Don't Cry"

Society often projects black men to be hyper-masculine, overly aggressive and with little to no emotion.

Playing with the softer side of masculinity in these portraits.

    More to come.

Thankful for the information and workshops Creative Capital staff! Here we are in Trenton a couple weeks ago.

  • My photography kids this summer! Enjoyed every minute. Although outside was hot and humid, capturing them exploring the outdoors was quite therapeutic. Assisting fellow educator and Photo Artist, Glynnis Reed, we had a great time with the students for the second year in a row. Thank you, Stockton Summer Camp and P.A.L. for the opportunity!

Student's work will be on display Friday, July 21, 2017, at Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton University. It will stay up for 1 month. Come check the exhibit out!

Students are collaging and editing their digital photography work on PAL's computers below.

Now we're off to explore the AC Boardwalk, photographing anything that catches their eye!

Here's work I started on the original "Proud To Be An American" created in 2008 when President Obama won office.

For the torn flag in the hair, I photographed old, torn, bed sheets. For the bleeding, bullet holes on my skin, I used red food coloring and silly putty. For the tears, I used honey on the side on an avocado.

Ha! Talk about stepping outside of my comfort zone! The strangest thing was doing this in front of an audience when I'm usually all alone creating my self-portraits. I really enjoyed teaching and sharing my creative process with everyone who came to the class.

Thank you, Bill, for capturing these photos!

On July 14, 2017, I was invited to talk about the art of self-portraiture and share my own creations with Millville Arts District at The Cumberland County Innovation & Arts Center. Thanks to the staff, everyone who came to my class, participated in the photo exercise and shared valuable information regarding photography protection rights. (Photos above by Bill Horin of ArtC)

  • Self-portraiture has always been one of the most exciting areas of the fine arts, mastered by artists like, Van Gogh, Cindy Sherman, Carrie Mae Weems and Frida Khalo --- just to name a few.

I'm offering valuable details into my own creative process and a behind the scenes peek into my conceptual digital photography world! Whether you're an amateur, pro, student or enthusiasts, this class will inspire you to pick up your digital camera and have fun making art.

Plus, a LIVE photo-shoot session will be happening, too!

Purchase tickets to my class today at www.artcnow.com/photosj.

Looking forward to seeing you on June 14 in Millville, NJ!

  • I used the canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6. I got as close as I could and snapped this photo. It was so crowded in Jersey City, NJ for this presidential campaign rally. 2008. I traveled alone that day and waiting about 4 hours in line to see him, but it was worth it.

Inspired by "Rosie The Riveter" who is a cultural icon of the United States, representing theAmerican women who worked in factories and shipyards during World War II, and Obama's 2008 Presidential Campaign, I created these selfies.

"Rosie" went viral from my flickr gallery, a photo sharing online community for artists and photographers, and ended up published in The Guardian U.K. Newspaper and "A Message For Obama" blurb book. A portion of the proceeds went to provide clean water to villages in Uganda.

A couple photos from Blondell, Marcus, Stephanine and I at the headquarters. Plus, a text from my sister after Obama won the states of Illinois and Connecticut.

A couple emails I sent out while volunteering as a grassroots organizer for Obama in Atlantic City. 2008.

Reflecting on First Lady Michelle Obama's words to me on this postcard sent during President Obama's first term. I'm so grateful for The Obama's who have led our country in dignity, class and grace. Thank you for continuing to be an inspiration!

Supporting First Lady Michelle Obama's education initiative #62MillionGirls through art. Photographed in a alley one night down the street where I live in Atlantic City. 2015.

Collaborated with local mentor groups, Champions of Youth and Boys & Girls Club (Atlantic City Chapter) to promote arts education and First Lady Obama's #62milliongirls.
